I am trying to find out what the rooms are like at animal kingdom lodge. we are in a savanah view room, are they bigger than a average hotel room? Anything spectacular about them?

    Hi Christine,

I am a huge fan of Animal Kingdom Lodge.  In fact, my last two Disney trips included stays at both Jambo House (the main lodge) and Kidani Village (the Disney Vacation Club property right next door)!  The rooms are well-appointed with dark wood furniture, colorful African-inspired bedding (look for the hidden Mickeys!) and granite bathrooms.  The deluxe resorts (of which Animal Kingdom Lodge is one) at Disney World have the largest rooms of the three resort categories.  A standard savanna view room is approximately 344 square feet.  The "spectacular" part of staying in a savanna-view room, in my opinion, is what you can see outside your balcony.  Waking up in the morning and being able to wish the exotic wildlife outside your window a good day, is truly amazing.  Some of my favorite family pictures are of my children standing in their PJs "talking" the giraffes and zebras on the savanna below them.  It truly is an experience like no other.  If you'd like to see detailed pictures of the different room categories, the independent website www.allears.net has many photos.  Simply click on "accommodations" from the home page, and search for Animal Kingdom Lodge.

In addition to the lovely rooms, the lobby at Jambo House is incredible, with a giant floor-to-ceiling window that enables you to start gazing at the animals immediately as you enter the resort.  The property is also home to some of Disney's finest restaurants, including Jiko, Boma and Sanaa (which overlooks a savanna and allows you to eat "with" the animals.)  While we were enjoying some Tandoori chicken, the same exotic bird kept us company two evenings in a row!  Finally, the pool at Jambo House is incredible.  It is themed after an African watering hole, has a zero entry and a super fun slide.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is truly a magical destination to call "home" while on your vacation.
