Hi Rachel,
I adore the
Walt Disney World Railroad, and it sounds like you are a fellow train enthusiast too! All four of the steam trains in the
Magic Kingdom Park have been operating since opening day in 1971.You can board the vintage trains in three different places: Frontierland, Fantasyland, and Main Street, USA. The entire 1.5-mile scenic tour around the Magic Kingdom lasts approximately 20 minutes. You will stop at the various stations to allow fellow passengers to board or disembark. I recommend riding the entire loop, as it is very relaxing.
If you have a keen interest in trains, you may want to consider reserving
Disney's The Magic Behind Our Steam Trains Tour. To book this wonderful 3-hour tour, call 407-WDW-TOUR (407-939-8687). You will want to note that this tour departs promptly at 7:30 AM, so please plan accordingly. All aboard for this fun, informative tour!
I believe that the train which you are referring to in Epcot is actually a
miniature garden railroad in the Germany Pavilion. This railroad is G-scale and is quite mesmerizing. I recommend that you grab yourselves some delicious
Karamell-Küche (Caramel Kitchen) nearby, find a bench, and enjoy watching the train chug past.
Wishing you magical memories,
Kaylene
