we are trying to decide between the cabins at fort wilderness and the Caribbean beach resort. 3 adults, a 6 yo and a 4 yo. first trip for the littles, so we are likely spending more time at the magic kingdome

Hey there, Nancy, and welcome to planDisney!

I’ll start by saying that those are two fantastic choices for accommodations. Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is one of my family of four’s favorite Disney Resorts Collection hotels and the Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort has one of the best locations on property. Let’s talk through each Resort hotel’s pros and cons when it comes to your family’s needs.

My boys are around the same ages of your kiddos and they are huge fans of Magic Kingdom Park (and Disney’s Hollywood Studios—more on that later). In my opinion, if you’re prioritizing that theme park, you should stay as close to it as possible. Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort is a short, complimentary boat ride away from Magic Kingdom Park. It’s like a fun attraction in itself that your children will LOVE. There is bus transportation to and from there to all theme parks as well. The Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long is a joyous celebration that occurs on many nights. Your kiddos will enjoy roasting marshmallows and seeing the characters.

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is a bit farther from Magic Kingdom Park, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not in a great location. It is the hub of the Disney Skyliner system. The Disney Skyliner connects Guests to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and EPCOT (and from EPCOT, you can take the Disney Monorail to Magic Kingdom Park). It also has the most magical pool: the Fuentes del Morro. The kids’ water play area is whimsical and it’s near the delicious Sebastian’s Bistro restaurant and Banana Cabana bar.

Being at the Cabins means that you may want to look into renting a golf cart to get from one place to another. The internal bus shuttle is always an option, but having the golf cart will save you a bit of time. On the flip side, being at Caribbean Beach means that you may be on a higher floor and there are no elevators there. The cons are not bad at all, so choosing which Resort hotel is best for you may just come down to location. The Cabins will give you a bit more privacy and it’s a lot closer to Magic Kingdom Park.

I have a feeling that this is going to be a memorable adventure for your family, Nancy! Any of the panelists will be more than happy to answer additional Disney vacation planning questions, so feel free to revisit us here. See you real soon!

    Magic always,
