Hi there, Pat, and welcome to planDisney! I can't tell you how excited I am to answer this question. I'll try to keep it to our regular answer length, and not a dissertation!
First off, let me say that you are going to be helping to make this 16-year-old boy's trip to the Disneyland Resort so magical - both experiences of building a lightsaber and crafting a droid are amazing.
Overall, this is a very tough choice. Of the two activities, I think the
Droid Depot experience is more about building something with numerous parts. However, the experience at
Savi's Workshop is truly breathtaking. There's not much that beats the feeling of everyone igniting their lightsabers for the first time.
The droids are so fun in the park because they can communicate with other droids and certain elements and objects around Batuu. The lightsabers are sturdy, fun to play with and display, and have all kinds of additional customization items available for purchase at
Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities - plus, it means you're pretty much a Jedi.
While both options are fantastic, I think I would probably lean more toward the Savi's Workshop experience of building a lightsaber. It's unforgettable!
One other suggestion would be to have at least one person in your party purchase a
MagicBand+ so you all can become
Batuu Bounty Hunters! You'll want to pair up your MagicBand+ with the Play Disney Parks app, then you'll get to search for bounties around
Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.
Thank you again, Pat! While it was fun to get to answer, I hope it was also helpful! If you think of any other follow-up questions, please feel free to
write me directly. Otherwise, have a magical trip!
May the Force Be With You,
Greg
