I am trying to chose a resort hotel for our August vacation. What exactly is the difference between the Yacht Club hotel and the Beach Club hotel? They cost the same and both have access to Stormalong Bay. Which would be better for a 5 and 2 year old?

Hi Kerri!  I love both the Yacht and Beach Club resorts and have stayed at both many times.  They are both deluxe resorts with basically the same amenities and do indeed share the wonderful pool area, Stormalong Bay.

The differences are basically in decor.  I have always found that the Beach Club is a bit more relaxed with a less formal lobby area and dining restaurant.  Cape May which is located just off the lobby has a wonderful character breakfast and a great New England type clam bake buffet at night.  The Yacht Club also has a restaurant off its lobby, Captain's Grill but it is quieter and mellow in comparison.  The Yachtsman Steakhouse is almost half was between the two resorts which are actually connected and where you will also find the health club, Periwegs salon, arcade, and Beaches and Cream soda fountain.

Both have small stores with the Beach Club having more fresh food selections since they also are the access for the Beach Club Villas shopping.

The Beach Club is where you will find the children's program, The Sandcastle Club, located.  This is for children 4 through 12.

If you want a quieter atmosphere with a business like feel then I would choose the Yacht Club.  If you enjoy something with more children around in all areas and a livelier feel in the lobby and through-out the resort then choose the Beach Club resort.
