All aboard, Florence?! It's great to see you back at the Disney Parks Moms Panel! With less than a month to go until the March 4, 2020 grand opening of
Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway, guests are ready to step through the movie screen (almost literally) and join Mickey and pals at the Chinese Theater at
Disney's Hollywood Studios. Mickey Mouse is long overdue for his very first attraction in the Disney Parks. I was lucky to get a sneak peek recently, and the Imagineers said they are calling this a 2½-D attraction, meaning no 3-D glasses are required!
I pulled up the Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway page on the Walt Disney World website and clicked on the Show Safety, Accessibility and Guest Policies, which state that guests "Must Transfer from Wheelchair/ECV." Although I haven't seen the ride vehicles yet, this is a similar policy to many attractions at Walt Disney World Resort, including the brand new
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. At these attractions, guests are usually allowed to remain in their wheelchairs (or ECVs) until they approach the ride vehicle, and then a Cast Member is there to assist with the transfer. They are calling this a "whirlwind ride," so I'm guessing the reason is that they feel guests will be more secure if they transfer out of their wheelchairs beforehand. My fellow panelist,
Aena, called Disability Services earlier this week and was told that
Disability Access Services will be available for the attraction. She also includes other helpful hints in her answer. If you have further concerns, please feel free to reach out to
Disability Services before your trip at (407) 560-2547.
I hope your trip is filled with lots of fun adventures, Florence! See ya' real soon!
