1st trip-May 2014-myself, hubby, twin 2 yo girls, mom and mom-in-law. Staying @ DW by getting the 6/7 full package OR stay 2 miles away @ very discounted rate, bus travel to DW. Your opinion-easier in terms of travel to/fr having young kids, dining and $?

    Hi Amy!

It's great that you are starting your planning so early! That is the best thing to do when you are going on your first trip. It makes it much easier as the time gets closer to the vacation.

In a strictly financial sense, staying off property will be the most economical. The only thing that could make being on property more affordable is if you get the free Disney Dining Plan with your reservation.

Now, on the experience, transportation, and convenience of your vacation, staying on property in my opinion is the best option for your first family trip. While you may be two miles outside of the Walt Disney World property, that is a long DRIVE in Orlando traffic. Just getting around Walt Disney World takes time. For instance, from Magic Kingdom to Animal Kingdom Lodge takes about twenty minutes by car. So, add more distance and a bus with a variable schedule; it could be a two and a half hour turn around or more from your resort to park and back. It's just very convenient to stay inside the "World."

Experience wise, it's very hard to dismiss the fact that staying at a Walt Disney World Resort, is more for the senses than the pocket book. You are taken into a different experience when you stay at a WDW resort and that is my most favorite part. That is why I stay in the WDW resorts.

Thank you for asking the Moms Panel, Amy! I'm sure you will have many more questions before your trip! Please do not hesitate to ask! We are always here for you!
