Our trip coincides with the WDW Marathon weekend. How will WDW be affected over this time? Will we still be able to move around freely and visit all the parks? Thanks.

    Greetings, Andrea!

Walt Disney World® Marathon Weekend presented by Cigna® is runDisney's premier race event, but with a little bit of extra planning, I think you'll find this weekend full of running will not interfere with your vacation.

Here is what you can expect:

The 5K and 10K races will not be an issue as these events will have finished at Epcot® theme park before park opening - these two races will not impact any other theme parks.

There will be road/lane closures during the half marathon that may affect any plans you might have trying to get to Epcot® at park opening on Saturday. However, the road portion of this course should be clear by 10:00am. Though this race also goes through Magic Kingdom® this portion of the course will be clear by park opening.

For the Marathon, you can expect a bit more of a delay trying to get around property due to the number of runners and length of the course. Where you are staying on property also plays a factor in any delays you may experience, as there is the possibility you may not be delayed at all. Most resort buses have alternative routes available. This course travels through all four theme parks will Magic Kingdom® having the least impact.

As far as theme park attendance, you will notice a high amount of guests sporting their new medals, but wait times and overall crowd levels will not be significantly larger than any other moderately busy weekend.

I hope this helps, Andrea! If you should have any further questions, please let me know. As the runDisney Specialist on the Disney Parks Moms Panel I am here to help you navigate your vacation around a race weekend.

    Have a magical stay!
