Our trip was booked before my wife and I got married. My wife and son are my companions and the trip was booked under my wife’s maiden name. We now have same last and all her documents have been changed to reflect this. How can I change the names ?

Ahoy, Sanussi, and welcome aboard planDisney! I'm so excited that you and your crew are planning to set sail on a Disney Cruise Line adventure - and in just a short time, too! There's no better vacation for making magical memories while being able to relax and take it easy while enjoying the best that Disney has to offer, so you've made a great choice. But time is short, and you have an important question, so let's get to it!

I remember the first time my wife and I traveled after we got married - her passport had her maiden name and it was an absolute scramble for us to try to get things updated! Now it looks like you have the opposite problem, which is actually less of a problem! I sailed over to ask a crew member what needs to be done, and have good news! All that needs to be done to update a legal name change is to call a Disney Cruise Line crew member directly to update the name on the reservation! This way, you'll be sure that any progress toward the next level of Castaway Club status can stay the same as well!

Now due to a recent system upgrade, wait times for the Disney Cruise Line phone lines have been as long as Rapunzel's hair, so I'd suggest calling as soon as the lines open at 8 a.m. Eastern time. There's no guarantee you'll have a short wait, but that'll be the best chance to ensure you are able to remain on hold instead of all circuits being busy!

Oh, and one more thing: if air travel has been booked through the Disney Cruise Line Air Program you must bring your marriage certificate and your wife's passport as proof that the name change has been made, but if you have booked your own flights, it looks like the weather is primed for smooth sailing!

Once your wife's name is updated you'll be that much closer to boarding the Disney Cruise Line fleet, and enjoying the most relaxing Disney vacation you've ever dreamed of! From Broadway-style shows to delicious gourmet dining, activities designed for the whole family to enjoy, there is so much that awaits you and your crew on the high seas - I hope you all are getting excited!

Thank you so much for your question, Sanussi! Here's to smooth sailing, short wait times, and an incredible Disney Cruise Line experience for you and your crew! If any other issues arise, please sail our way again here at planDisney - we'll keep a weather eye open for your colors!

    Fair winds and following seas,

    Andrew
