Welcome to planDisney, Victoria!
Many of the packaged food items, such as ice cream novelties and treats from Goofy's Candy Company, have carb counts printed on them. A dear friend of mine, an avid Walt Disney World Resort fan, also has a son with type 1 diabetes. Before her trips, she goes through menus of Table Service restaurants they have
Advanced Dining Reservations for and Quick Service dining locations where she thinks they may eat. She can usually predict what menu items her son will select at these locations. She then researches the general carb counts online for these foods. For example, her son loves
Casey's Corner. On the restaurant's page, you can select the
View Menu icon to the right of the picture on the top of the page. She knows her son would absolutely want the Chili-Cheese All-Beef Foot-long Hot Dog without the chili-cheese. She then researches the carb count for "footlong hot dog plus bun". She makes a list in her smartphone, so it is handy when her family is ready to fuel up. Portion sizes can be large, so she makes sure she accounts for this in planning. When you are at Walt Disney World Resort, always discuss your dietary needs with your server so they can help make your dining experience easier for you. It is also a good idea to talk to your physician. I am sure they have had similar questions from patients before and would be a great additional resource in helping you with your selections.
Have a magical day, Victoria!
