We had a trip booked for Christmas 2020 (not a package). With the pandemic situation, we are cancelling our trip from Canada. To get a credit for our purchased tickets, do I need to do anything or is it automatic since we won't be using them at all?

Hi there Isabelle! Welcome back to planDisney! We're so glad you've send another question our way, and I'd be happy to assist you today.

I'm so sorry to hear that your travel plans have been impacted by the pandemic. I feel like the year 2020 has been brought to us by the Disney villains! Isabelle, under normal circumstances, theme park tickets are non-refundable as per Disney rules. Given the nature of our current situation, Disney has updated ticket policies to help Guests manage evolving vacation plans.

Theme park tickets with a usage window impacted by park closure, or date-specific theme park tickets purchased through June 6, 2020 with a valid use period beginning March 12, 2020 or later, will automatically be extended to use any date through September 26, 2021. Check your My Disney Experience account; my unused tickets from June of 2020 now show an expiration date of September 26, 2021. If you are unable to visit by September 26, 2021, you may apply the value of a wholly unused ticket toward the purchase of a ticket for a future date. If you are still interested in canceling your tickets, I recommend speaking with a Disney Reservation Center Cast Member by calling (407) 566-4985.
