We are tried and true Grand Floridian guests - 4 visits and love it more everytime. Our 7 & 4 year old want to stay at Wilderness Lodge for our trip in August. How is the commute to MK? Any other advice on Wilderness Lodge?

    Hi Ingrid!

There is no doubt the Grand Floridian is a great resort!  However, my absolute favorite resort at Walt Disney World is the Wilderness Lodge.  My whole family loves the theming at the lodge; we feel that it and the Animal Kingdom Lodge have the most theming of any resort on property.  Every time I visit the Wilderness Lodge, I feel like I've actually left Florida and have been magically transported to the Pacific Northwest.  My kids also love the theming of the pool area and the "duck races" that are typically held there.

You can reach the Magic Kingdom (MK) by boat, which I absolutely love, especially at night.  The boats run very often.  In fact, I don't think it is much longer to reach the Magic Kingdom from the Wilderness Lodge by boat than from the Polynesian using the monorail; as you know, because of its location, the time it takes to get to the MK from the Grand Floridian via the monorail is a lot different than the time it takes to return.  Of course, you can also take a boat to and from the MK from the Grand Floridian as well.  Maybe I'm biased, because I would take the boat over the monorail every day from either resort except when it is raining!  It's very enjoyable!  I also think it is more stress free to wait in a line for the boat at park closing than in the line for the monorail.  However, if you don't want to travel by boat, there is also bus service to the Magic Kingdom and other destinations from the front of the Wilderness Lodge.

Regardless of whether you stay at the lodge or not, I highly recommend having dinner at the Whispering Canyon Cafe.  It is located right off the main lobby and it is a lot of fun for the entire family!  My children especially enjoy the "horse races" typically held there.

I hope you enjoy planning your next trip and write back if you have any more questions!
