I have tried to read and understand rider switch and fastpass usage together. Help! We have three adults and an 8 year old. Do we all need fast passes if she doesn’t want to ride? Thanks!

Hi, Stephanie! Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel and thanks for stopping by to chat with us. Rider Switch Service is meant to assist families with little ones that do not quite meet the height requirements for some attractions. One adult waits with the child while the rest of the party enjoys the attraction. When the first group returns, they can supervise the child while the other adult boards the attraction via the FastPass+ queue.

In your case, Rider Switch Service may not be necessary. Most eight-year-olds are tall enough to experience all of the attractions in the theme parks. As you mentioned, the issue is that she does not want to ride the attraction. So, you will need to plan for FastPass+ selections for the adults who do plan to ride. I think your best bet is to split up and have two adults ride the attraction with FastPass+ while one waits with her. When they exit the attraction, the other adult can utilize their FastPass+ for it. Another option is to make a different FastPass+ selection for the child and adult who plans to wait with her. Yet another option you have is to make FastPass+ selections that you can all experience together.

If there is an attraction that all of the adults want to ride and she is not quite tall enough for, then you are welcome to chat with the Cast Member at the attraction's entrance about securing a Rider Switch pass for it. As the terms of use have been explained to us, if the first group experiences the attraction via the FastPass+ queue, then even the waiting adult who wants to use Rider Switch Service should make a FastPass+ selection for it.

I hope this helps you plan for your visit to Walt Disney World Resort! Please let us know if you have any other questions.
