Thanks for bringing your question to us here at planDisney, Erin! Having a fully charged
MagicBand+ is of the utmost importance if you want to enjoy the lights, vibrations, and long-range features like automatic attraction PhotoPass image linking to your Disney account. While other essential functions of the MagicBand+ still work with a depleted battery, Disney recommends charging it every 6 months between visits to
maintain battery health. Here are some strategies I've used when I've plugged my device in and it didn't seem to start charging.
- Make sure the contact points on the charging cable and the device are aligned when placing the MagicBand+ on the charger. If they are slightly off, charging won't start.
- Clean the contact points on the MagicBand+. I get a pencil eraser or cotton swab and clean off any dust or gunk that could prevent a good connection.
- Plug it in and forget about it for a while. I've plugged my MagicBand+ in before and it looked like nothing was happening, but after an overnight or a full 24 hours there were signs of life on the LED circle.
I recommend checking out the
MagicBand+ Support page for answers to Frequently Asked Questions. You can also check out this
Help Center answer about performing a factory reset on your device. If all else fails,
reach out to a Cast Member and they can provide additional support.
Remember, your MagicBand+ can still do the following functions with a depleted battery:
- Tap for Park entry
- Redeem Lightning Lane selections
- Unlock your Disney Resort hotel room
- Tap to charge food and merchandise purchases (to the payment card on file at your Disney Resort hotel room during your stay)
- Use for Disney PhotoPass photographer interactions and certain photo touch points
I hope these strategies are able to revive your MagicBand+, Erin! I am wishing you a fabulous visit to Disney World!
Stay magical,
Scott
