Tree of Life at Sunset at Disney's Animal Kingdom

Does the Tree Awakening at Animal Kingdom still occur when the park closes at 6 pm BUT sunset isn't until 8:15 or so? We are arriving in a week and wanted to know this answer so we can play accordingly.

Hey there Alice, and welcome to planDisney!

Looks like your your next Walt Disney World Resort vacation is coming up incredibly soon, so I'm glad to have caught your question in time as I write to you from Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park, gazing out upon the Tree of Life from my secret spot in the Discovery Island Trails. I hadn't seen neither any projections nor nighttime activity on the Tree of Life in the evenings over the past little while, so I took this opportunity to speak with the Cast Members working all over in this area to find out more about what you can expect this week during your visit:

    • At the current time there haven't been any Tree of Life Awakenings, even with a slightly later closing time of 7:00 P.M. this past week; the Cast Members let me know that this offering only takes place after dark and likely wouldn't return until later in the year. (Even as I stayed beyond closing hours yesterday there was still quite a bit of light so based on the Cast Members' recommendations and personal experience, this might not be something to make plans around for this upcoming week heading into late spring and early summer.)

Offerings may always be subject to change without prior notice, however I definitely agree with Disney's Animal Kingdom Cast Members when they observe that it's not quite dark enough yet for this to take place during operations hours at this part of the year and your best bet to catch this would likely be in the autumn onwards. That said, guests might be intrigued to discover that private events like Tree of Life ceremonies booked through Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings team that take place after day guests have vacated the theme park may be able to pay for a private viewing of their own to mark the special occasion!

I hope this helps, Alice! In the meantime, don't hesitate to keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog for any news or updates like the new drone show - “Disney Dreams That Soar presented by AT&T” debuting soon at Disney Springs for a different way to enjoy some entertainment that lights up the night!

Wishing you all the best on your after-sunset adventuring!
