Treating my grandchildren but unfortunately my husband is a diabetic with knee and heal problems. He can't walk or stand for long periods of time. Is there anything I can do to make his trip pleasant.

    Hi Mary,

Sounds like you have a Grand Adventure planned with your family and I know you will all have a fabulous vacation.  I know the challenges of traveling with someone in your party that has mobility issues.  Disney has taken away the worry so that everyone can enjoy the Most Magical Place on Earth.

You'll probably want to rent an Electric Conveyance Vehicle for your husband.  ECV rentals are available at all theme parks at Guest Relations on a first come, first served basis.  If you'd like to rent a vehicle for your entire stay, Disney has provided a list of preferred vendors that will deliver the ECV to your resort and will pick it up after you depart.  We have used the ECV on several occasions and it has made a world of difference for the entire traveling party.

Disney's Disability Access Card or DAS card will assist with the queues at theme park attractions.  The link I provided will give you all the details on how to obtain the card as well as how the card works.  The DAS card may not be necessary if you have the ECV.  You will enter the attraction via an alternate entrance and wait in the standard queue.  Since your husband will be seated on the vehicle, any stress from standing will be alleviated.

For additional tips for traveling with your family, see the video from my fellow Moms Panel Grandma, Anne.  I'm so happy that you and your grandchildren will be making memories at the Walt Disney World Resort that will last a lifetime.  Cherish your time with them and have a wonderful trip.

    Be Magical,

    Leanne T.

Walt Disney captured my heart as a little girl and has not let go since. As a parent and grandparent, I have been to the Walt Disney World Resort with children of all ages, and also as empty nesters. I would like to share my years of experience so that you are able to start your own tradition of Walt Disney World memories, just as I have. Learn More About Leanne
