Hi moms! Travelling with DH, DS6, DS2. Have a res at CG but considering changing to Brown Derby for fantasmic pkg. We will only be going to one signature restaurant during our trip so I'm torn between the two. What are your thoughts? Thanks so much!

    Hi Allison,

Wow!  You have a tough choice.  Those are two great restaurants.  If you didn't have children with you, California Grill would be my first choice, no questions asked.  The food is delicious and the view is breathtaking.  I especially love watching Wishes from the balcony.

Fireworks in the Magic Kingdom start quite late, and it can be a really long night for small children.  If you think your children can handle sitting in a nice restaurant at that late hour, go for California Grill.  Of course, you may be choosing the option to dine early and then come back upstairs for the fireworks - great choice!

Brown Derby is a nice restaurant. It's located inside the park, so it's super convenient.  You'll have a little bit more freedom with the timing of your reservation.  It's also a little more laid back than California Grill.  Once you're done eating, if you have time, you can visit an attraction or watch a show before heading to Fantasmic!  You can also choose this experience for lunch, which might be a good option.

Now, Fantasmic! is probably my favorite show in all of Walt Disney World.  However, there are a lot villains, and I'm thinking your youngest might be frightened by the spectacle.

Your decision ultimately comes down to knowing which situation will be best for your children.  Hopefully, I've given you enough information to make that choice.

    Have a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Diane, Georgia

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
