We are travelling as two families. 5 children (ages 2 - 7). We have planned a character dining for b-fast at Animal Kingdom. We also have dinner reservations at Rainforest Cafe in Downtown Disney. How long does it take to travel to Downtown Disney?

The children in your group will probably really enjoy the character breakfast at Animal Kingdom, and Rainforest Cafe is always a big hit with my children.

As far as travel times are concerned, where are you traveling from?  Are you traveling from Animal Kingdom to dinner at Rainforest Cafe, or is the reservation on a separate day from your resort?  If your dining reservations are on the same day that you are in the park, do you know that Rainforest Cafe has a restaurant at Animal Kingdom?  You may have already tried making reservations there and are going to Downtown Disney as a second option.

There is no direct transportation from Animal Kingdom to Downtown Disney.  You will have to travel to the Transportation and Ticket Center and then get on a bus to Downtown Disney.  Another option that is kind of fun is to travel to Saratoga Springs where you can then take a boat ride to Downtown Disney. The ferries run every hour until 4:00 p.m. and then run every half hour after 4:00.   You can also walk from Saratoga Springs, but with five small children, that might not be an option you want to consider. It's about a 10 minute walk.  Whatever option you choose, I would plan on leaving Animal Kingdom an hour and a half before your reservation just to give your party enough travel time.  If you get Downtown Disney early, there are plenty of fun shops and activities for the entire party to enjoy.  My children especially LOVE the Lego Store where they can build and race cars.
