Hi! I am travelling next week from Canada to Walt Disney World. I was planning to buy here some gift cards. Could you please tell me how many Canadian dollars I need to have in the gift card to have a 250 US dollars gift card? Thanks!

Hi there, Maria - welcome to planDisney!

Thanks so much for stopping by with your question today. We love to help Guests just like you plan your very own, very magical, Walt Disney World Resort vacations!

Disney Gift Cards are a great way to conveniently cover expenses during your trip, and they can also be a great tool for budgeting. I've checked in with some friends from your neck of the woods and my recollection of how exchange rates work was confirmed. A Disney Gift Card purchased with Canadian Dollars (CAD) will be converted to United States Dollars (USD) the first time you use it in the United States to make a purchase, using the exchange rate on the date of that first purchase. So, the conversion does not occur when you purchase the gift card, but after your first use, the conversion is complete and you don't have to worry about exchange rates moving forward. Based on today's exchange rate, it looks like you'd need to purchase a $330.00 CAD gift card to convert to $250.00 USD.

I hope this information is helpful as you continue planning! Just in case you'll be visiting for more than a few days, I wanted to let you know that the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival begins on July 27th. If you'll still be hanging out with Mickey and his pals, it's an event that shouldn't be missed!
