We are traveling with a 4 year old and are wondering if there is some kind of rider switch for rides the little one may not be able to ride?

Hi, Sylvia!  Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

I am so excited to hEAR that you will be visiting the Walt Disney World Resort with your own little Mouseketeer!  There is nothing quite like experiencing that Disney magic through the eyes of your little one.  I am happy to tell you that Walt Disney World Resort offers the Rider Switch Service for guests visiting with children who are not tall enough, or simply just not ready for, certain attractions.

If your party wishes to experience an attraction that your little one is not able to ride, you can speak to a Cast Member at the attraction entrance about using the Rider Switch Service.  The Cast Member will issue your party a Rider Switch entitlement by scanning your MagicBand or admission card.  One adult in your party will wait with the child while the other guests wait in the ride queue and experience the attraction.  Once they return, the waiting adult may experience the attraction without having to wait in the standby line.  If they would like, the waiting adult may bring up to two other members of your party along with them when they ride.  The Rider Switch Service may be used in conjunction with the FastPass+ system.  Please keep in mind that if the first group in your party will be using the FastPass+ queue rather than waiting in the standby line, then the waiting adult(s) should also have a valid FastPass+ for that attraction.

The Rider Switch Service is so helpful for families in your situation.  I think you will also find that numerous attractions will be practically perfect in every way for your entire family.  If you wish to explore which attractions your whole family can enjoy together, the attractions page on the Walt Disney World website can be filtered by height restrictions, age, and interests.  There are also lots of entertainment options that I think your 4-year old would love.  Character dining experiences are also a big hit with the preschool crowd, so be sure to make some dining reservations before your trip.
