Hi! We are traveling to WDW in 2 weeks, and our 1 year old son has several very severe food allergies. I would love to hear if anyone in a similar situation has had great experiences with safe allergen dining anywhere at MK, EPCOT, resorts, or DS?

Hi Garrett, and welcome to planDisney.

How exciting it must be knowing your family vacation to the Most Magical Place on Earth is just a couple of weeks away. That final countdown is always the best part. When I was a kid, I used to order the Disney Vacation Planning VHS tape, and later the DVD, and watch it over and over again as my family geared up for our trips. I recently found the old videos uploaded to YouTube, and they’re still a fun way to get into the Disney mindset. I also just watched “The Happiest Story on Earth” special on ABC, and while it isn’t specifically about Walt Disney World, it definitely sets the right tone for a trip filled with smiles, laughs, and memories.

Now, to your question. Our family has faced a similar situation with severe food allergies, and I can tell you from firsthand experience that the Cast Members across Walt Disney World Resort take this very seriously. You’ll find that the chefs, servers, and managers are all incredibly well-trained in accommodating food allergies. Before you arrive, I recommend sending an email to Special.Diets@DisneyWorld.com. They’ll provide you with a Special Dietary Request Form, which allows you to share details about your son’s allergies ahead of time. This gives the dining team a chance to review and prepare for your visit.

Before you arrive, you can start reviewing many of the dining menus and the allergen-friendly version of the standard dishes online. Here is a list of all of the dining options available to you when vacationing at Disney World, and to narrow your focus, you can utilize the filters to go park by park, and get a rough idea of what is available to you now, before even setting foot in the parks or your Disney Resort. When you’re dining, you can always ask to see the allergen menu, which clearly outlines ingredients and potential concerns. In most cases, a chef will come to your table personally, discuss options with you, and often prepare your meal separately to minimize the risk of cross-contamination. Whether you’re at Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, one of the resorts, or Disney Springs, you’ll find the same level of care and consistency. For my family, this has given us peace of mind and allowed us to truly enjoy meals together without worry.

Thank you again for stopping by with such an important question, Garrett. I hope this helps give you confidence heading into your trip. Wishing you and your family a safe, delicious, and unforgettable vacation.

    See you real soon,
    Brent
