We are traveling to WDW and staying at POR during the Christmas holidays (12/25-1/1). I know it will be super crowded. We have ADRs all over the complex. Will renting a car make it easier to get to these meals without having to leave parks early?

    Hi, Mary!

First of all, you're going to love DIsney's Port Orleans Resort; my son and I were there two months ago, and really enjoyed our stay.

Now, your visit to Walt Disney World over the Christmas holiday week will surely be more crowded than if you had gone most other weeks, so, yes, lines for buses will also be longer. However, there will also be more Resort Buses running during that peak week than in the slower seasons as well. In addition, there will be longer lines at Bag Check as well as at the ticketing turnstiles, so renting a car won't cut down on the time that it takes you to get into any park for an Advanced Dining Reservation. Parking lots will surely be filled far more quickly on these days, as parks may reach capacity early in the day, too.

That being said, we've opted to rely on Resort Buses during all holiday vacations; we simply don't want to be bothered with the extra traffic, further parking spaces and waits for a tram to the park entrance before we even get to Bag Check. However, if you've planned your ADRs in such a way that you arrive a park prior to open, for example, or need to get from Park A to Downtown Disney, or need to head from POR to an ADR at another resort, then renting a car will surely cut down on your travel time. Be having your own car with you, you'll cut down on a two-legged trip and will be able to get to very early morning ADRs easily.

I suggest that you look at the logistics of where your ADRs are in order to determine if you'll be saving a significant amount of time by renting a car to help you get to them. Feel free to send me your itinerary, and I'd be happy to advise based on the specifics of your journey. I love to help!
