Hi. I am traveling to WDW in June 2009 with extended family (renioun). We are staying at Saratoga Springs using my DVC. We are interested in the Dining Plan, but we will not be on property for 2 days. Is it still worth it? We are only staying 6 days.

    Hi Sue!

Congratulations on your upcoming family reunion and vacation!  As you know, as a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) member, you can add the Dining Plan to your reservation by calling member services prior to your arrival.  In my opinion, the Dining Plans work well, and are a good value if you have advanced dining reservations and plan to use all (or the vast majority) of your meal credits.  While you don't have to use your credits on a certain day, it might be hard to use them if you'll be off-site for two of your six days at Disney.  One possibility, is making reservations at some of the signature restaurants.  (These are Disney's fine dining establishments, and require two table-service credits per person.)  Some of our favorites are Jiko and the California Grille.  If you chose from these fabulous restaurants on one or two of your nights at Disney and/or have more than one table-service meal in a given day, (e.g., a character breakfast, quick service lunch and table-service dinner)  the plan might still be a good value for your family.

If, however, you don't think you will be able to use up most of your credits on the days you are at Disney, I'd stick with paying a la carte.  If you are an annual pass holder, as many DVC Members are, you can consider purchasing the "Tables In Wonderland" discount plan, which provides 20% off the bill (including wine) at many Disney restaurants.  This is a great program that we participate in regularly.  If you are interested, you can call (407) 566-5858 for more information.

    Have a great reunion!
