We are traveling to WDW in Jan 09, I have heard that it is not really busy at that time. Do I really need to make reservations 180 days in advance? The problem is they have have not released the 09 calander yet and we don't know what are plans are.

Hi Melanie - Yes, you are correct that the majority of January is considered a relatively slower time of the year (with the exception of the first few days and a slight pick-up over Martin Luther King weekend).   The calendar, which is shown out for 6 months, should be updated for January shortly which will roughly coincide with the 180 day period you can make dining reservations.

My suggestion is that if you have any "must go" restaurants that you go ahead and plan these as early as possible.   Certain of the more popular restaurants / character dining options can book up even in less crowded times of the year.   You can always choose to call back and either cancel or change your time once you view the calendar and make more firm plans.   We tend to also visit during off-peak times.   I have found this strategy of making sure we get the reservations that we really want and filling in other slots either later or once we get to Disney to work.   Hope this helps.
