We are traveling to WDW for the first time in July. Yay!!! We have three kids 3, 10, 13. We are staying off the resort. Any suggestions? Also, what three parks would be the best? And we cannot decide on a character meal. Thanks for any suggestions.

Off-site visitors will want to allow extra time to get to the theme park entrances prior to opening time. If you are taking a shuttle, verify the morning departure times. If you are driving, remember to mark down your parking spot or take a picture of the nearest sign. When departing later in the day, you may be too tired to recall being parked in “Goofy 13”, for example.

For touring, you’ll want to avoid the parks that are offering morning or evening Extra Magic Hours. Resort guests tend to crowd these parks to take advantage of these extra hours offered to guests staying at a Walt Disney World resort.

For dining, make sure you have all of your Advance Dining Reservations made. July is a very busy time of year and it’ll be even more important to reserve dining at table service restaurants. Finding a last minute sit-down restaurant will be difficult if not impossible. Enjoying a nice meal is a good way to escape the heat and helps to rejuvenate everyone, especially if you will not be returning to your off-site hotel for a mid-day break.

If I were to choose 3 parks, I would pick the Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Hollywood Studios. I only hesitate to pick the Animal Kingdom (which I love) because it does not offer as many attractions or shows as the other parks.

For a character meal, I would suggest Chef Mickey’s at the Contemporary Resort. This is a fun meal for all ages.  I hope your first WDW trip is simply magical!
