We are traveling to WDW (so excited!!) in June, and are planning to use the Magical Express. For children under three, what saftey restraints are on the bus? Are there seatbelts for children? Is the same for busses that transport to and from the park?

    Hi Theresa:

My family always uses Magical Express, Disney's complimentary airport transportation to and from Orlando International Airport and your Disney Resort. The service is operated by Mears Transportation.

Neither the Magical Express buses nor the buses that transport guests from Disney resorts to parks have seatbelts or other restraints. I spoke to a representative from Mears who confirmed that there are no seat belts on the Magical Express buses, which he noted are apparently not required by Florida law.

I feel comfortable with my young children on Magical Express, particularly because the Disney video presentation describing the Magical Express service that runs on the bus flat screen keeps my kids entertained and firmly planted in their seats. However, whether you choose to utilize the service is a decision you have to make for you and your family.  If you decide to ride Magical Express, my number one safety tip when traveling with small children would be to avoid sitting in the first row of the bus. This first row of seats does not have seat backs in front of them that can be used as a brace for any unexpected short stops.

One alternative to Magical Express would be to rent a car and either bring your own car seat or request a car seat add-on from the car rental company.

    Enjoy your vacation.
