We are traveling to WDW for Christmas 09 for our daughter's b-day and planning to stay at AKL. My daughter loves animals and wants to go to Africa. I thought this may be the next best thing. Is it worth the money( we have a savannah view)?

Absolutely!! I just returned from there last weekend (my 3rd stay at the resort) and simply cannot enjoy this resort enough.  With your daughter's love of animals and Africa, it is truly a perfect fit.  The resort is such a unique experience; I don't think anything can compare to it in the USA.  How often can you wake up and look out at giraffes just yards away?  My whole family has said how we could just vacation at the resort and skip the parks.

Within the resort are many activities for families and children, and many of them are free.  There is art and cultural items throughout the resort with cast members (from Africa) very willing to talk about them and their life in Africa.  In the evening there is a fire pit where stories are told, and cast members with night vision goggles to allow night viewing of the animals.

Have I mentioned the dining?  Bomas and Jikos are phenomenal dining experiences with their African flavors.  We don't have a trip without stopping at the resort to eat.

By the time of your trip, the construction on the Disney Vacation Club addition will be completed, and I believe the rooms will all have been renovated as well -- just another bonus!
