Traveling to WDW in Aug. If we book late Aug we get a free meal plan but it's not the ideal week for us to go. (too close to start of school) Is the free meal plan really a good deal? Should we go a earlier & pay 4 food 2 have rested kids b4 school?

    Hi Rebekah,

I am a huge fan of the Disney Dining Plan and the "FREE Dining" Promotion is one of my favorite deals offered by the Walt Disney Travel Company.  Although the Dining Plan is added to your vacation package for FREE in observance of this promotion, please keep in mind that you will be paying rack rate for the room itself, as additional discounts and specials cannot be combined with this offer.

I would check the SPECIAL OFFERS section of the Walt Disney World website to see if there are any alternative offers that may suit the needs of your family during dates that are more preferable.  Usually the prices of promotional packages come out to be pretty comparable, so I recommend pricing out each package to see where the best value lies.

For example, there is a current special offer advertising 30% off select Disney World hotels in August which is applicable for vacations beginning August 15th.  Try pricing out your vacation a la carte.  You may be surprised at the savings you discover!

If earlier in the month works better for your family, I really can't advise taking a vacation at an inopportune time just to take advantage of Free Dining...especially when there's another special offer available!
