First and foremost, you have excellent taste because both of these restaurants are fantastic choices. I think even Chef Remy would approve! The good news is that you really cannot go wrong with either one.
So, let’s start with
Steakhouse 71 at the
Contemporary Resort. This is definitely a family favorite of ours. The restaurant celebrates Walt Disney's history, and as you walk in, you’ll see photos of Walt himself and other nostalgic touches throughout the space. The 71 in the name is a nod to 1971, the year the Contemporary Resort opened.
Now let’s talk about the
food because this is where things get really delicious! I love the French Onion Soup, and you certainly cannot go wrong with one of their steaks. But make sure you save room for dessert. The Steakhouse 71 Signature Chocolate Cake is a must for chocolate lovers. It is a towering 15-layer chocolate cake inspired by the number of floors of the Contemporary Resort.
Next, let’s head over to
Disney Springs and talk about
Summer House on the Lake. This restaurant has such a fun, breezy California-inspired atmosphere and feels like a little taste of summer no matter what time of year you visit. The menu focuses on fresh ingredients and bright flavors, and the entire restaurant has such a relaxed, beachy feel.
One of my favorite ways to start is with the
Ahi Tuna & Watermelon Tostadas, followed by the Skirt Steak Frites. And whatever you do, do not leave without visiting the Cookie Bar! Chef Remy may believe anyone can cook, but I am perfectly happy letting the chefs at Summer House handle the cooking while I handle the cookie tasting.
Both restaurants are delicious, but one thing that may help you decide is where you’ll be before dinner. If you are spending the day at
Magic Kingdom, Steakhouse 71 is incredibly convenient and just a quick monorail ride away. If you are already planning to spend some time shopping, dining, or exploring Disney Springs, Summer House on the Lake would fit perfectly into your evening.
The two restaurants have very different personalities, but I don't think you will be disappointed with either choice. One feels more classic and nostalgic, while the other gives you that relaxed, vacation-style dining experience.
