Traveling with two boys (7 and 11) in June. Do you rec. the Disney dining plan or will we save money by purchasing our own meals, possibly even bringing our own breakfast food and snacks from home?

    Hi Allison!

The meal plan will save you money depending on how many meals you plan to eat in the parks.  You can definitely save a little by bringing your own food.  If you plan on bringing your own breakfast, then maybe the regular dining plan is for you.  You will receive 1 quick service and 1 table service meal per day, plus snacks.  These snacks can be anything from popcorn to cupcakes to ice cream for dessert.  With the regular dining plan, you can use your table service credits for character meals, which is where you will get the most for your money.  You can switch off your table service meals for character breakfasts or dinners depending on what you'd like to do the most.  You can use your credits at the restaurants in Downtown Disney, all of the parks and resorts.

The first time my family used the dining plan, I kept track of the meals we were getting and how much they cost if we were paying out of pocket.  We did end up saving quite a bit of money, however we probably wouldn't have eaten that much if we were doing it on our own.  The dining plan gives you the freedom to pretty much eat where you want and I love that it's pre-paid.

Take a look at the participating restaurants on the 2012 Disney Dining Plan to see if the dining plan is right for your family.

    Have a magical day!
