Hi! We are traveling soon to Disneyland and I would love my kiddos to try some of the iconic treats however they are very sensitive to food dyes and one is allergic to red food dye. What options do I have? Does the popcorn have food dye? Thank you!!

    Hello, Dalyn!

Welcome to planDisney! We have many food allergies in our family, and I know how challenging it is to keep your family safe while also wanting to try special treats on vacation. One of the reasons that I love traveling to Disneyland Resort is that our family has eaten there countless times without any issues!

Ingredients can change at any time, which is why I always ask to see the ingredient list for snacks and treats before I purchase anything. The last time I checked the popcorn ingredients, it did not include red food dye. A Churro is another delicious option that usually excludes red food dye. Prepackaged treats are also great choices with easy-to-read ingredients, such as Nestle Mickey's Premium Ice Cream Bars and Minute Maid Frozen Lemonades.

We also love Daisy's Goody-Goody Donuts at Cafe Daisy in Mickey's Toontown! These warm, mini-donuts are covered with cinnamon sugar, and they are allergy-friendly for many common allergies. We eat them every day during our Disneyland vacations! DOLE Whip® Pineapple Soft Serves and Pixar Pier Frosty Parfaits are also well-loved by our family and may be dye-free. If you venture over to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, stop by the Milk Stand to review the delicious Green Milk and Blue Milk ingredients. I am Team Blue Milk, although one of my kids loves the Green Milk!

Regardless of which snacks you choose, I always recommend checking ingredient lists for all food and talking to a Cast Member before deciding what you feel comfortable consuming. Ingredients are subject to change, and Disneyland cannot guarantee that any item is completely free of allergens. However, my family successfully dines at Disneyland each year, and we will continue to do so!

When dining at a restaurant at Disneyland, I also recommend asking to speak with the chef or a Special Diets Trained Cast Member before ordering your meal to discuss ingredients and allergies. I usually review the menus ahead of time and make a list of which choices my family may want to eat. I discuss this list with the Special Diets Trained Cast Member to create allergy-friendly meals. My favorite table-service restaurants include Lamplight Lounge, Cafe Orleans, and Storytellers Cafe. For more information, check out the Special Dietary Requests page, which has a plethora of helpful information about dining with food allergies at Disneyland.

Dalyn, I hope your family has a tasty visit to Disneyland Resort! If you have other questions, feel free to contact me directly!
