Hi Alisa,
When deciding on a resort, I look at the overall theming, the amenities and recreational activities offered at each resort, to make sure my choice fits my family's personality and needs. Both options you have mentioned are absolutely beautiful, so whatever you choose, you won't be disappointed!
To help make your decision, here are some points that I would take into consideration regarding both Resorts.
Disney's Old Key West Resort is physically much larger than
Disney's Port Orleans -French Quarter, the buildings are nestled between fairways from the Buena Vista Golf Course, waterways and lush gardens, making the resort seem less crowded than other resorts. Be prepared to walk a fair bit as the property is extensive. Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter is a moderate resort, that is also quaint, however I have found the resort a little more lively, due to it's theming. The buildings aren't as far away as the ones at Disney's Key West, and guests are able to take a quick stroll along the river to visit Disney's Port Orleans Resort - Riverside.
As for dining, Disney's Old Key West, offers Olivia's a casual dining location, along with a Quick-Service option, where as Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter only offers a Quick-Serve food court. Both resorts offer fabulous amenities and pools, and they are both located close to Epcot and Downtown Disney.
Given the ages of your boys, I would suggest Port Orleans Resort French Quarter because the atmosphere is slightly more lively. However, I would take a look and see which resort appeals to you and your family. Please let me know if you have any other questions, I would be happy to help.
