We will be traveling from NC to Disney in Sept '12. In the past, the roads into Florida at 5am wasn't busy at all, but when we left to go home at 3pm on a Friday, the traffic was horrible. What are the best travel times going into and leaving Disney?

    Hi there, Sherri!

Having lived in Florida for most of my life, I can tell you that traffic around Walt Disney World (particularly Interstate 4 and the Florida Turnpike) can get pretty busy during peak hours.

Friday at 3:00 PM seems to be the start of the weekend rush hour in Central Florida. Combine that with schools in the areas letting out, and you have a recipe for a slow ride.

Your best bet is to use the highways and interior roads prior to 7:00 AM for arrival and departure. The midday stretch from about 9:30 AM - 3:00 PM is usually pretty clear, but after 3:00 PM, you'll start to see an uptick in traffic. And consider waiting until after 6:00 PM to hit the roads again if you want a ride that's relatively congestion-free.

    Drive carefully!

    See you later, celebrator,
