We are traveling in large party (11) I understand the restaurants automatically add 18% gratuity, are we also suppose to add tip to that? What is the proper protocol?

    Hi Tiffany!

Congratulations on your upcoming BIG vacation.  I too have vacationed in Walt Disney World with large parties and found that more vacationers mean more opportunities for MAGIC.

When dining with parties of 6 or more an automatic 18% gratuity is added for all table service meals unless it is a meal which specifically states gratuities are included such as Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue.  The decision to add extra gratuity is up to you.  Since I usually add 20% gratuity when I dine out, quite often I do add something extra to the bill when it is presented especially if I have received great service.  There is no proper protocol for this; it is simply up to you.

A nice feature when dining with a large group is that each "party" of your total group of 11 can decide how much extra, if any, beyond the 18% to add to the bill.  Each bill will be presented separately.  Since I have 4 children in my party (yes ~ we are a party of 6 by ourselves) I find my servers usually are amazing and bring extra items to the table to help occupy my children before the meal is served.  Therefore I usually do add extra to the gratuity for their great service.

I hope this helps you with your vacation plans Tiffany. If you have any further questions, please come back and visit us at the Disney Parks Moms Panel.  We love to help!

    Blessings,
