We are traveling with a large group (19; multiple families; multiple ages). For initial lightening lanes, is it better to book by family (3-6 people) or as a large group to stay together for the first ones? Will we get better times with the smaller groups?

Hi there, Chris! Welcome to planDisney! It is so exciting that you are bringing a large group to The Most Magical Place on Earth! I find that the magic is multiplied when there are more to share it with! Your trip will be here soon, so let's get into it!

Booking Lightning Lane experiences can sometimes be a bit of a challenge when heading up a large group, but it can definitely be done. As the mom of a big family, it's common for me to be in charge of twelve (or more) while visiting the Disney theme parks, so I know a thing or two about managing several people on vacation. To start, make sure that all nineteen of you are linked as Family & Friends on your My Disney Experience accounts. Everyone should click on each name in the party and ensure that you are allowing the adults in the group to make plans for you. And, of course, each person in your party age three and older will need to have a Lightning Lane Pass purchased for their account. It is entirely doable to make Lightning Lane reservations for all nineteen of you, and this may indeed be your best way to start the day. Initially, I don't think this will make a big impact on your return times.

Another option, as you mentioned, is to book them as family groups, at least for subsequent Lightning Lanes, as the time slots begin to fill up. You may not be able to book the exact same return windows, but you should be able to secure some that overlap. You could also split into two or three groups, each with a designated leader to handle the reservations. Finally, an additional possibility would be to separate into groups based on interests. For example, the thrill-seekers in your party can plan to ride Tron Lightcycle Run (my favorite!), while those looking for a tamer attraction head for Peter Pan's Flight.

Meal time is another important priority. I suggest that each family utilize mobile ordering. It's a great way to pass the time while in line for an attraction, and it will make for a much easier experience when everyone starts getting hungry. In Magic Kingdom Park, I like to go to Columbia Harbour House because there is plenty of seating upstairs. Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe is another great choice. Backlot Express is my top pick at Disney's Hollywood Studios. I got the Teriyaki Chicken Bowl on my last visit, and I'm still thinking about it!

I hope this helps, Chris! I wish I could hear all about the fun you have on this special vacation! I know it's going to be magical! If you have any more questions, please come back and see us at planDisney
