Hi, We are traveling in a few weeks to Disney with very picky 3 year olds. They have the dining plan for them but they barely eat the stuff on menus. Can I ask for chicken fingers at Chef Mickey, or Hashbrowns (tator tots) at Ohana breakfast?

Hiya, David! Welcome to planDisney, and thank you so much for sending in your question. Honestly, you are not alone here. Traveling with picky toddlers is basically a rite of passage, and Disney sees this every single day. The good news? Walt Disney World is genuinely one of the best places on earth to handle exactly this situation, especially when you're using the Disney Dining Plan. One of my best friends, Ashley, has had to deal with this before. Her toddler went through a pretty funny french fry phase and Disney was AMAZING at accommodating her needs!

While I can't promise you a specific substitution ahead of time or tell you exactly what each kitchen will offer, what I can confidently tell you is that Disney is incredibly accommodating when it comes to picky eaters, particularly young ones. The chefs and servers understand that a three-year-old's idea of a “perfect meal” often has very little to do with what's printed on the menu.

When you arrive at a restaurant like Chef Mickey's or 'Ohana, the best thing you can do is simply talk to your server right away. Let them know that you're traveling with picky little ones and explain what they're most comfortable eating. Cast Members are used to these requests and will happily walk you through what's possible that day. Many times, the kitchen can offer simpler alternatives or adjust what's already being prepared so your child actually eats, which is always the real goal.

This same approach applies at every dining location on property, whether it's character dining, table-service meals, or even some quick-service spots. Disney wants your family to enjoy the experience, not stress over uneaten plates. And if anyone in your party also has food allergies or dietary restrictions, be sure to mention that as well. Disney takes allergies very seriously and will always make sure those needs are handled with care.

David, please don't worry about being “that parent” who asks questions or requests adjustments. At Disney, that's completely normal and encouraged. You'll find that there's almost always a solution, and your kids will leave happy, full, and ready for the next magical moment.

    Warm hugs,
