Hi! We will be traveling to Disneyland soon. I would like to understand what the difference is between an adult account (18+) on the Disneyland app and a child that is under 18 (ie 15 year old). Can the 15 year old still book Genie+ reservations for us?

Hi Peter! Thanks for dropping by planDisney.

Yes! Your teen can book Lightning Lane Entrances for the group. In fact, that's a great way to get your teen involved in the family vacation. Since your child is at least 13 years old, they can create their own Disneyland Resort account, download the Disneyland mobile app, and make and redeem Lightning Lane Entrances using Disney's Genie+ Service. Before you arrive, you can play around with Genie to help plan your day, including which Attractions your teen and the group want to prioritize.

Once your child has made their account and downloaded the app, they can log into the app with their new credentials. To book those Lightning Lane Entrances for the group, however, you'll need to have all the group's admission tickets linked to that account. Now, don't worry about the tickets being on multiple accounts: it's okay and won't mess anything up.

I can walk you through this simple process. You should see a three-bar menu on the bottom right-hand side of the app. Click the bars to bring up a series of tiles. Select "Tickets and Passes" and press the "+" to begin linking your admission tickets. You can either manually enter the ticket ID numbers or scan the barcodes using your mobile device's camera. Once they're all linked, your teen is set to select those return times for your favorite Attractions.

One thing to note, your teen won't be able to save a credit card as a method of payment in the app since they're not 18. They can use a Disney Gift Card, however, for in-app purchases, such as purchasing Individual Lightning Lanes or using Mobile Order. To quickly enter the Card number, save the number in the Notes app on your teen's mobile device and copy and paste the number into the app to complete the transaction. The Disney Gift Card can also be used in person for other purchases in the parks. It gives your teen some freedom during the trip!

    I hope this helps.
