Traveling to disney with our 2 , 9, and 11 year olds and the grandparents. Trying to decide which hotel to stay in and which form of transportation with require less walking. We will visit Hollywood, MK, and AK. Water launch, or monorail or walking?

Let’s try to figure this out together. It seems like your main concern is reducing walking time.

There is no other way to reach the Animal Kingdom other than by bus. So let’s not use that park to factor in your decision.

Hollywood Studios is reached via bus, boat or walking (which is not an option in your case). The only resorts that provide boat transportation would be the Boardwalk, Yacht Club or Beach Club. However the walk from the boat dock at Hollywood Studios to the front gate is a bit longer than from the bus depot. It is a lovely way to travel though.

Since you are likely to be traveling most often to the Magic Kingdom, I would recommend a hotel on the monorail line. Your options would be the Contemporary, Polynesian or Grand Floridian.

If you are looking for a less expensive resort, the moderate and value resorts transport guests to the Magic Kingdom via bus. Also the Wilderness Lodge offers a water launch to the Magic Kingdom. This would be a great alternative to the more expensive monorail resorts.

When traveling with grandparents, I prefer to stay at the Polynesian on trips where we are splurging on a deluxe monorail resort. This is usually in the off-season when rates are lower.

All of our son’s grandparents truly loved their stays at the Wilderness Lodge. It is a compact resort, beautifully themed and very relaxing.

For a moderate resort, I would recommend the Port Orleans French Quarter. It is less walking throughout the resort compared to the other moderate hotels. The one bus stop is also convenient. We had Grandma join us here on one of our stays and it worked out well.

I’ve given you some things to think about for now. Let me know if you need any further help. Best wishes!
