Will be traveling to Disney World with a diabetic 5 year old next spring. Do you have nutritional guides with carb. counts for your kids meals?

    Hi there, Janie!

I am so glad you stopped by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with this question regarding your Type 1 child.  Like you, I also have a diabetic child so I know the challenges and concerns you face each day.

Unfortunately carb counts are not listed on menu items which makes calculating insulin doses challenging.  As is in the "real world" prepackaged items like milk, applesauce....would have carb counts.  However,  Disney does not provide carb counts for menu items at the food service and dining locations.  Google will need to be on hand so that you can 'guestimate' carb counting.  You might also consider CalorieKing as well.  Be sure to check them out online.

As you know, about one billion things can affect blood sugars.  We tend to test more often while in the parks.  Heat and adrenaline can do crazy things to BG readings.  Be sure to bring plenty of low snacks.  If I can help with other questions with regard to traveling with Type 1, please don't hesitate to ask. I am so happy to help!

    Magically yours in 2018,

    Jacqui
