Hey Howdy Hey, Marilyn!
You're as welcome as can be here at planDisney. How wonderful that your exciting Walt Disney World Resort vacation is just around the riverbend. This year is sure going to be a great one, with the addition of new attractions like
TRON / Lightcycle Run and the return of beloved nighttime spectaculars. I can hardly wait for my visit in June!
Marilyn, I spoke with someone at Guest Services about your question, and I learned a thingamabob or two that will help you. First, if you are staying on property, Disney Resort rooms can't accommodate the scooters within the rooms themselves. However, there is a designated space on the floor where you can both park and charge your scooter so it is in a safe place and ready for your use each day.
I recommend calling ahead and putting a note on your account that you will have a mobility device (your scooter) during your stay so that they can make sure your accommodations match your need. This will ensure you are on a floor with the parking and charging station, and you can even request to have a room close by if you need it. To make this addition to your account, you would need to contact
Guest Services who can help you.
If you are bringing your own scooter, you don't need to notify the Resort, other than to ensure you are on a floor where you can park and charge your scooter. If you need to rent one, you can do that through Walt Disney World's official scooter rental partner,
ScooterBug Rental, and they will deliver that to you at Bell Services. Either way, be sure and let them know you need to park and charge your scooter each night if you will be staying at a Disney Resort Hotel.
To get to the theme parks, Marilyn, you can take the scooter on the Resort's complimentary transportation. Typically, it can be driven onto watercraft and the Monorail. But if you plan to use the buses, you'll want to be aboard a courtesy shuttle which has a lift to help you get the scooter on and off the bus. Most buses will have this lift, but some do not. These shuttles only run from the Resort to the theme parks and Disney Springs. Unfortunately, they do not run Resort to Resort. But I recommend checking with the Front Desk to make sure you know when the courtesy shuttles run to ensure you are able to board one that can accommodate your scooter.
Now, if you do not need the scooter rental to be delivered to your Resort, or if you are not staying on Walt Disney World property, you can rent the mobility scooters at specific locations at each of the theme parks and at Disney Springs. This
map shows the locations of each of the rental areas for these areas.
I should note that some attractions and experiences will permit the mobility scooter, others require the Guest to park the mobility scooter and transfer to a wheelchair for the attraction queue and attraction, and there are some that require a transfer to a wheelchair for the queue and then directly on the ride car for the attraction. You can
preview these in advance if it is helpful for you and of course, check with a Cast Member or Guest Services if you have questions.
I hope this helps you, Marilyn. If you have any additional Disney vacation planning questions, come back and see me here at planDisney! I'll be so happy to help you because you've got a friend in me.
Have a magical time!
Keri
