We are traveling to Disney in September 2015 to celebrate nursing school graduation/becoming an RN and a 60th birthday. Any recommendations to celebrate and make the trip more fun? Is there any merchandise related to being a nurse?

    Hi Anastasia!

CONGRATULATIONS! Being a nurse is truly one of the most magical jobs in the world. I know that everyday I am incredibly proud to be a nurse! You have the ability to really help people when they are facing their biggest time of need.  Always remember even though you will have rough days, you have the ability to put a smile on the face of someone that really needs it!

I can’t think of a better way to celebrate your accomplishment, and a birthday than by celebrating at the Walt Disney World Resort! Whenever I have a celebration, I like to plan a really nice and delicious meal. My favorite place is ‘Ohana at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. This meal is served family style and is influenced by Hawaiian and Polynesian dishes.  The appetizers are some of the best I have had, and the main course (meats, pork, shrimp, etc.) come out on skewers and are all you care to eat. If you are able to reserve a time close to the Wishes Nighttime Spectacular, they dim the lights and pipe the music in to the restaurant.

Another idea is to schedule a manicure and/or pedicure at Senses – A Disney Spa at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort.  After all of your hard work, you deserve a little rest and relaxation! I know that I love to feel pampered and at Senses, they really make you feel like royalty!

Lastly, on my last trip I did find a nursing pin at Frontier Trading Post in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom Park.  While I am not sure if this was a special edition, or if the merchandise has since changed, if you are there it would be worth a look! You also could check out Disney’s Pin Traders at the Downtown Disney Area.  When I wear my nursing pin from Disney on my scrubs, it does seem to open up a lot of conversations. Talking about Disney sure does make a lot of people smile!
