Traveling to Disney 5/19-24 with my boys (5 and 2), hubby and parents. How important are reservations at table-service restaurants? I'd like some schedule flexibility, but also need to feed hungry, food-focused family and we are not much for fast food.

    Rachel:

To me, especially when traveling with a crowd, the hassle of having firm table service restaurants is preferable to the bigger hassle you'll have finding a restaurant that will seat six people!  Honestly, you'll spend more time trying to find one restaurant for one meal with stand-by reservations than just setting a loose schedule of which parks you'll do each day and planning one table service restaurant per day accordingly and making the phone call to Disney Dining....

Yes, there are restaurants that will take stand-by reservations, but with a larger party like yours, you could find yourself waiting over an hour or simply being turned down and having to go to another restaurant. The better restaurants rarely have adequate stand-by slots. And with small children, you're better off with standing reservations.

If you're not much for fast food, I'd recommend making at least one reservation a day that you can count on! You can always call ahead and cancel--you'll make some poor waiting family happy!

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
