I will be traveling to Disney alone with my nephew for this 5th Birthday. I am worried that he will be so excited he might try to run and get lost in the crowd. What are your recommendations for preparing for a possible lost child?

Hi Jeanneane! This is a concern for many families traveling to Walt Disney World with children. We do a few things to make certain that if we are accidentally separated from one of our children, then we will be easily reunited.
    1. Have everyone in your travel party wear the same color shirt. We prefer to wear brighter colors while traveling to the Parks. While, we have worn the exact same shirt in the past, we find that wearing the same color works just as well. It is easy to identify the tie dye or lime green shirt that fell behind or got ahead. This also comes in handy if you need to describe a child to Cast Members when asking for assistance.
    2. Children that are "pin trading" age can use the lanyard's clear plastic identification/card holder to hold the child's name and travel party information including cell phone number and resort information.
    3. Discuss the "lost child" scenario with children prior to your vacation. This way if you and a child become separated, then it will be less scary for both of you. You can predetermine that if the child becomes separated, then they will go to the nearest shop or restaurant once they realize the separation. The child should notify a Cast Member that they are waiting for you to find them. This will keep the child with an adult, while you check the nearby shops and restaurants. This is when # 1 and #2 above can come in handy. If your child is younger or very shy, your directions could be for them to go to the nearest Cast Member.
    4. Upon arrival to the Park, introduce your child to a Cast Member and point out their cool white name badge. This helps with #3 above.
    5. Hold hands. We "monkey walk", skip and (during busier times) walk through the parks holding hands.
These are just a few of the many strategies that you can use to enjoy your visit. Have a Magical Vacation!
