I am traveling just after Christmas in 2024 with the plan to celebrate New Year’s Eve in magic kingdom as it’s my friends 30th birthday. I am yet to buy my park tickets but I am wondering if I will need additional tickets or need a reservation??

Well hello, Chris. Welcome to planDisney!

What a way to celebrate a 30th birthday party! New Year's Eve at Magic Kingdom Park at the Walt Disney World Resort! I don't know if I could think of a better way to celebrate. In past years, there have been specialty fireworks, DJ dance parties, and just a feeling of celebration throughout the entire park. While details for this year's celebrations won't be announced until later on in the year, just being in this wonderful park, surrounded by gorgeous holiday decorations, is enough of a celebratory atmosphere! Just be sure to ask Guest Relations for a celebration button for your friend to wear throughout the day and night!

When purchasing theme park tickets, if you are asked to select dates on a calendar, then you are purchasing date-based tickets (most Guests purchase this type of ticket). At this time, Guests with date-based tickets do not need to make Theme Park Reservations. They also do not need to purchase additional tickets to experience New Year's Eve at Magic Kingdom Park. That being said, all of the theme parks, especially EPCOT and Magic Kingdom Park, get very busy on holidays like New Year's Eve. As such, there is always the possibility of the park closing due to capacity. Because of this, I would recommend getting to the park early and not leaving until you are done celebrating for the night as you won't be let back in if the park closes due to capacity limitations.

There are sometimes specialty offerings that are available to ring in the New Year. For example, there was an Alice in Wonderland-inspired celebration at California Grill at the top of Disney's Contemporary Resort last year. While there is no guarantee something like this will be offered again, if you are interested in these types of specialty events, be sure to stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog for any announcements. For me, I would be just happy to be at the resort on New Year's Eve as I have yet to experience it! You'll have to let me know what you think!

Chris, I hope you and your friend have an amazing celebration at the Most Magical Place on Earth. Please feel free to reach out to me with any other questions leading up to your trip.

Always remember you're the one who can fill the world with sunshine,
    Matt
