Hi, Ellen!
Oh, if I could have a dollar for every time you are going to hear "are we there yet" I could probably pay for another trip to Walt Disney World! But really, the time will fly by!
If you son likes to read in the car, you might want to get my kids' favorite Disney planning book: Guide to the Magic for Kids by Tim Foster. This excellent guide book geared directly to kids not only has travel advice, it also has trivia, stickers, places to make notes about your trip, and even a place for character autographs. This fun book becomes a treasured keepsake!
If you have a DVD player in your car, order a
Disney Vacation Planning DVD. This fun DVD will get your whole family excited for all the magic that is waiting for you. (And may I add a personal note: Watch for a shout-out to the Moms Panel on the DVD!)
You can also have maps personalized and mailed to you. Do this and give them to your son to study so he has an idea of the park layouts before you arrive.
These ideas, along with a bag full of goodies including iPads, iPods, handheld games, and plenty of snacks and you should be just fine keeping your adorable son busy for the ride. On the way home, have him write some notes about his vacation. These will become treasured memories to look back on!
Good luck on your "Disney or Bust" road trip! Let us know if you have any planning questions that we can help you with!
