Wells from MN Asked Please note that experiences, policies, pricing and other offerings are subject to change and may have changed since the date of this answer.

I am a transplant recipient and I am not able to eat off of buffets due to the potential of bacteria and the spread of germs from the handling of many people. Are non-buffet options for things like Firework Dessert Party and other potential buffets?

Hello, Wells, and welcome to planDisney. I see that you are planning a trip to Walt Disney World next December - planning is half of the fun and it's so exciting that you have a whole year to plan and prepare. You are going to have such a great time.

Wells, one thing that keeps me coming back to Walt Disney World is how accomodating they can be to Guests with special needs and requests. I am always constantly amazed at the different offerings that are available to people who need a little extra assistance. For as big of a company as Disney is, you can really tell that they truly care about their Guests and the Guest experience.

Walt Disney World has a very good reputation for being accomodating to people with food allergies and restrictions.  In fact, there is a whole section on the website dedicated to it. While the webpage doesn't mention your situation specifically, it does talk about reaching out to the Special Diets team with any questions that you might have. The email address is Special.Diets(at)DisneyWorld.com

I honestly don't think this will be a problem at all. I know that at buffets, the chef will come out and speak to the person with a food allergy. They typically will navigate the buffet together and if nothing is to their liking or isn't safe the Chef will typically come up with something for them to enjoy. Same with children. I know my daughter has had something personally made for her at one of the restaurants when our served noticed she wasn't eating much. The chef came out and talked with her about her likes and dislikes and prepared her something special.

I would go ahead and email the Special Diets team even though you are a year out. That way, you'll have a good plan in place for when it is time to make your advanced dining reservations. I hope this helps. If you have any other questions while you plan your trip, please stop back by and ask me. I'm here to help.

    Happy holidays!

Meet the Panelist: Jackie, North Carolina

I love all things Walt Disney World.  In fact, since becoming Annual Passholders, my family of 3 is always hopping in the car for a quick trip to visit with Mickey Mouse!  I've been known to make the 8 hour each way drive to Walt Disney World (in one day!) to indulge in a Mickey Waffle or enjoy a sunny day at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.  I may have a small family, but we are always up for some BIG fun at the Walt Disney World Resort.   Learn More About Jackie
