Can I transfer a MagicBand from my name to my husband? I got a new one and want to give my old one to him. We will be sailing on the Magic next month and I want everyone to be able to use them for room keys and charging privileges.

    Ahoy, Jane!

Welcome aboard planDisney! There’s nothing quite like knowing you’ll be setting sail next month—your magical adventure is so close, you can almost hear the ship’s horn playing “When You Wish Upon a Star!” And to make it even better, you’ll be aboard my favorite ship, the Magic!

Now, about your MagicBand… unfortunately, once a MagicBand has been linked to a MyDisney account, it’s locked in like Excalibur in the stone and can’t be transferred to another person. I know that’s not the news you were hoping for, but don’t worry—there’s still plenty of time to get your husband a MagicBand+ before embarkation!

Just to make sure we’re on the right course, let’s talk about MagicBand vs. MagicBand+ because not all bands are created equal when it comes to Disney Cruise Line. Only MagicBand+ and DisneyBand+ work onboard—you won’t be able to use the older MagicBand or MagicBand 2 for room access or charging privileges at sea. If your husband needs one, you can order a DisneyBand+ through the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app at least 11 days before your sailing (ordering timeline subject to change), or he can purchase one once onboard (though selection may be more limited).

You might be wondering what the difference is between MagicBand+ and DisneyBand+. Functionally, they’re the same, and either one will work for both Disney Cruise Line and the theme parks. But DisneyBand+ features exclusive cruise-themed designs and (from my experience) offers a few extra customizable light-up effects to make your sailing even more magical!

One last tip—if you have any tweens or teens who plan to spend time in Edge or Vibe, they are currently required to carry their Key to the World card to check into the club. Cast Members place a special sticker on it for club access, so if you’re deciding whether to purchase a band for them, keep in mind that they’ll still need to carry their card anyway. But if your family visits the Disney parks often, a DisneyBand+ can still be a great investment!

Wishing you a fantastical, magical journey on the Disney Magic! May your trip be filled with pixie-dusted moments, unforgettable sunsets, and just the right amount of soft-serve ice cream from Deck 9!

Sea ya real soon with love in the air and magic everywhere,
    Dustin
