Hi Jill,
Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I am delighted to discuss California Grill and couples-only experiences any time!
Since
California Grill is one of my favorite restaurants, I will suggest that you keep searching for a reservation. We always dine here with a reservation at least 30 minutes prior to the fireworks show. Knowing that you have been unable to make a reservation, the lounge could be an option. Cast members accept guests for the lounge when space is available. I suggest that you review the menu to determine what you could order while you enjoy the view waiting for the fireworks. You will need to check in at the California Grill podium located on the second floor of Disney's Contemporary Resort Hotel.
For other signature dining experiences, I suggest
STK Orlando at Disney Springs,
Victoria & Albert's at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and
Flying Fish at Disney's BoardWalk area. The food and atmosphere at STK Orlando is fantastic and the outdoor patio provides lovely views of Disney Springs. After dinner, you can enjoy the shopping and entertainment at Disney Springs. If you dine at Flying Fish, take a stroll along Disney's BoardWalk - the atmosphere feels so romantic to us!
Jill, my husband and I love to do a few signature dining experiences on every visit. If you want a little something different, try Disney's Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show. The dancers are amazing!
Magic, memories and Minnie Mouse hugs,
Donyell
