Welcome to planDisney, Amy! I appreciate your question about recycling empty Disney gift cards. Now, my favorite way to recycle them is to reload them and head to
Walt Disney World Resort! I guess technically that is "reuse," but you only need one for this, not a ton.
The easiest option to have your empty gift cards recycled is to take them to a collection location near your home that accepts plastic items. You may find bins for plastic at your local grocery store or other retailers. There are no recycling collection stations at Walt Disney World Resort, other than the recycling containers you may see next to trash bins.
Do you want to know my favorite Disney eco-friendly fact? The fireworks on
Disney Cruise Line are made of biodegradable materials fish can eat and they are launched with compressed air, not gunpowder. If you are ever on a Disney Cruise (which I highly recommend), you can enjoy these stunning fireworks knowing the fish will be happy, too.
I've always admired Walt Disney World's approach to conservation with animals, as you see throughout
Animal Kingdom Theme Park. And there is so much more. You can find information on the many ways Walt Disney World is
committed to environmental sustainability. I love seeing the solar panels on the drive into the parks. My house has solar but the scale of Disney is so much more impactful. With the additional centers being built, they are working toward having 40% of the resort powered by the sun. That's quite impressive!
Before you recycle your gift cards, you can
check their balances online - just to make sure you are not recycling ones you meant to keep. If there are any funds left, you can transfer them to a single card.
Kermit will tell you, "It's not easy being green." I am glad people like you and companies like Disney are trying.
Stay cool,
Jana
