Are there a ton of bugs (mosquitos) at Disney World in April/May? I'm trying to decide if we should pack bug spray or not.

Hey there, Jaime! Thanks for buzzing in to see us here at the Disney Parks Moths Panel...er, Moms Panel! Let's help keep the creepy crawlies from "bugging" you at the Walt Disney World Resort!

The only insects you want to see at Walt Disney World are Flik and his friends from It's Tough to Be a Bug, am I right? But this is Florida, and we have more kinds of bugs than you can shake a walking stick at. I've even heard it said that our state bird is the mosquito, although I haven't verified that claim.

In general, mosquitoes are active in the spring here in Florida. Amazingly, though, I have rarely found them to be a problem at Walt Disney World. Through a little Disney magic (and a whole lot of science and preventative measures), Disney manages to keep the biting bugs at bay. It never hurts to be prepared, however, and Disney does offer complimentary insect repellent upon request. If you have a particular brand or type you prefer, for sensitive skin for example, you can certainly bring your own. If you're planning evening outdoor activities outside the Theme Parks, that's a good time to slather or spray on your insect repellent.

Jaime, one thing you may see a lot of at Walt Disney World in April and May is love bugs (and I don't mean the car!). They tend to swarm and may catch you by surprise if you've never seen them before. Rest assured, they're completely harmless and don't bite, so don't let them bug you!

I hope this helps you avoid some of Florida's more notorious natives, Jaime. It sounds like you have a good pest plan. I hope you'll march on over to see us again soon!

    Keep Disney Dreaming,

Meet the Panelist: Kathy, Florida

I've lived my whole life just an hour's drive from Walt Disney World, so I've been a regular visitor for as long as I can remember. Even after all these years and so many visits, I love that there's still so much to discover! Now that I'm a mom myself, seeing my favorite place through my son's eyes has given me a whole new perspective that I enjoy sharing with other parents of young children. Learn More About Kathy
